Small Batches for Big Change.
Ice Cream Social was a project that started during the Wisconsin Stay at Home Order this past spring. I was furloughed from my job so I threw myself into my hobbies to keep myself occupied, one of which was making ice cream. I came up with Ice Cream Social as a way to share something with my friends, at a distance of course. The “Social” in the name was a play on Social Distancing. My plan was to drop little containers of ice cream off at my friend’s houses for them to enjoy.
After the murder of George Floyd and the protests began I was heartbroken, angry, and was trying to come up with a creative way to help. I realized that my homemade ice cream could do more than just provide comfort to my friends and that I might actually be able to raise some money. In 24 hours I designed and launched Ice Cream Social on Instagram and within 2 days had my first sale and raised a little over $100. The “Social” in Ice Cream Social took on a completely new meaning - giving a nod to its format on social media as well as all of the proceeds being donated to fight social injustice and racism. The money that I bring in through the sales is donated to a new charity each month. The first month of Ice Cream Social raised $738!
